Women’s-UAAP Season 78 Volleyball Tournament:

UP Lady Maroons Won Against UE Lady Warriors 

Women’s-UAAP Season 78 volleyball tournament preliminaries round was held at FilOil Arena San Juan City on January 31, 2016. It is the match between University of the Philippines “UP Lady Maroons” with coach Jeffrey Yee and University of the East “UE Lady Warriors” with coach Francis Vicente. This match was not being successful without the two referees, Lopez, Jeffrey (IR) and Eusebio, Erlindo (NR). UP Lady Maroons ended this game with three consecutive winnings; this match lasted with only 3 sets in favor with the University of the Philippines. The victory is in UP lady Maroons with the scores of 25-20, 25-13, and 25-21.

This year’s match becomes unusual to the audience for UP Lady Maroons. This unusual thing is because of the new players of the team. UP Lady Maroons became more competitive in their opponent team, UE Lady Warriors. Kathy Bersola, who suffered an ACL injury that sidelined her for the duration of Season 77 and put a damper on UP’s Final Four aspirations, welcomed back her by their winnings. Bersola known for being the league’s former “Best Blocker”, controlled the net defense from the onset. Substitute Dorog, Rookies Justine and Carlos proved to be the spark for the UP Lady Maroons later on as they scored nine points apiece to lead the UP attack in the win. Veteran opener Tiamzon also chipped-in nine as the Lady Maroons notched an opening day victory for the first time in recent memory. UE was paced by Adorador with seven points, followed by Abil with five.

From the past UAAP seasons, UP did not show something strange to other teams but this match, let say they evolved and we smell something better than before. They evolved to raise their school since they are the host. But, that is not a point UP volleyball team today is showing their new but better team. New players can be one of the reasons, but their experience in the field of volleyball can serve as proof to ask how they become like that.

Today, UAAP seems to be one of the well-known league competitions nationwide, their objectives are good for the Filipino youth to show their talents in the field of sports. Just like UP Lady Maroons, they never give up to show their talents even if, they are defeated many times. They are now rising up to represent their schools and also, to show that we should go and continue our fights in life without concentrating to our rivalries.
